Luncheon with Michael Parmly

"Dealing with Cuba: What has Changed"

On 17 December, Presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro announced a major breakthrough in US-Cuban relations, completely revising more than 50 years of antagonistic relations between the two countries. Since the December announcement, there has been an intensified dialogue between the two governments, and it is expected that the two Presidents will meet at the April Summit of the Americas in Panama. The new relationship builds on the reforms introduced by President Castro since he came to power in February 2008, and on the revisions in US Cuba policy by President Obama since 2009. The stated goal is for the two countries to reestablish formal diplomatic relations for the first time since those ties were broken in 1961.

AIC Vice President Michael Parmly will discuss the evolving picture in Cuba and in US-Cuban relations, based on his three years’ experience as head of the US Interests Section in Havana, as well as his extensive research and speaking on the topic of Cuba.
