U.S. Ambassador to France Meets the American Community in Nice

On 19 May 2026, Ron Banks, President of the American International Club (AIC), attended a special reception in honor of U.S. Ambassador to France, Charles Kushner. The event was graciously hosted by the City of Nice and held at the magnificent Villa Masséna Museum, one of the city's most prestigious historic landmarks. Set amidst beautiful gardens overlooking the Promenade des Anglais, the venue provided an elegant backdrop for an evening dedicated to strengthening ties between the United States and France.

The AIC was represented through its membership in the Association of American Clubs of Southern France, an organization that brings together American clubs and associations throughout the region. As the current Vice President of the Association, Ron Banks was invited to participate in the event alongside American community leaders, local officials, diplomats, and distinguished guests from across the Côte d'Azur.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kushner highlighted the enduring friendship between France and the United States, a relationship that spans more than two centuries. He reflected on the important influence France had on the development of American democratic ideals and institutions, noting that the bonds between the two nations are rooted not only in shared history but also in common values such as liberty, democracy, and international cooperation. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of maintaining strong cultural, economic, and diplomatic relationships in an increasingly interconnected world.

Representing the City of Nice, Mayor Eric Ciotti welcomed the guests and spoke of the longstanding and historic partnership between France and the United States. He praised the contributions of the American community to the region and underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries. His remarks echoed the Ambassador's message that the Franco-American relationship remains a vital force for mutual understanding and friendship.

One of the eventd most memorable moments came at the conclusion of the formal program when the national anthems of both countries were performed. Guests stood respectfully as “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “La Marseillaise” filled the historic surroundings. The French attendees sang their national anthem with remarkable pride and enthusiasm, creating a moving and patriotic atmosphere that reflected the deep appreciation each nation holds for its heritage and values.

Following the official ceremony, guests gathered in the museum's courtyard for a reception. The relaxed setting provided an opportunity for conversation and networking among members of the diplomatic community, local government representatives, and leaders of American organizations in France. The evening served as a meaningful reminder of the enduring friendship between France and the United States and the important role that community organizations such as the AIC play in fostering international understanding and goodwill.
