The Swiss Model: A Relic of the Past …
In an increasingly fragmented and unpredictable world, Switzerland’s model of neutrality, stability, dialogue, and consensus continues to attract attention, but also raises new questions: Is the Swiss model still a source of resilience, prosperity, and international influence, or does it need to be rethought in light of today’s geopolitical, technological, and economic challenges?
In this fireside chat with the President of the American International Club, Raymond Loretan will share his insights on Switzerland’s unique position in a rapidly changing world, its role as a trusted bridge-builder, and the lessons that the Swiss model may offer for the future of diplomacy, business, governance, and international cooperation.
Raymond Loretan has devoted more than forty years to diplomacy, politics, and business. A former Secretary General of the Christian Democratic People’s Party, now The Centre, he served as Ambassador to Singapore and later in New York as Consul General. He is also a former President of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation and of the documentary film festival Visions du Réel. Since 2018, he has chaired the Foundation of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
Professionally, he is Vice-Chairman of the Aevis Victoria Group and Chairman of Swiss Medical Network, as well as chairman of various boards and foundations. Since 2016, he has chaired the Geneva Diplomatic Club, whose objective is to strengthen ties between diplomacy, business, politics, and culture in support of the international outreach of Geneva.
