Francisco de Goya (1746&ndash\;1828) was a Spanish r oyal court artists and a pioneer of modern art\; a painter of great portra its and an inventor of mysterious, personal pictorial worlds. It is in the se seemingly unresolvable contradictions that we discover the magical fasc ination of Goya&rsquo\;s art. \; Fondation Beyeler presents one of the most important Goya exhibitions \; ever outside of Spain. In h is sixty-year artistic career, Goya spanned the Rococo to the Romantic per iods, and at the end \; pushing open the gate to realms that do not di fferentiate between reality and fantasy. There, Goya is a keen observer of the human drama of reason and irrationality, of dreams and nightmares. The exhibition in collaboration with the Museo Nacional del Prado bri ngs together seventy paintings and a selection of \; drawings and prin ts on a journey into the beautiful and the incomprehensible. This exhibition shows works of nine women artists occupying promi nent positions within the history of modern art, from 1870 to the present day. It was at the beginning of this period that women artists in Europe a nd America were in a position to make their first significant incursions i nto the professional world of art. These nine artists are united in their depiction of the human figure: of portraiture, in widely differing forms\; and the self-portrait. The artistes include Mary Cassatt, Frida Ka hlo, and Alice Neel. |

If we leave about 17H30, we should be able to arrive at Basel SBB and purchase a picnic dinner to make the < strong>18H28 train to Bern (change at 19H26) and arrive in Geneva at 21H18.
