 was a Spanish royal court artists and a pioneer of modern art\; a painter 
 of great portraits and an inventor of mysterious, personal pictorial world
 s. It is in these seemingly unresolvable contradictions that we discover t
 he magical fascination of Goya&rsquo\;s art. \nFondation Beyeler presents 
 one of the most important Goya exhibitions  ever outside of Spain. In his 
 sixty-year artistic career, Goya spanned the Rococo to the Romantic period
 s, and at the end  pushing open the gate to realms that do not differentia
 te between reality and fantasy. There, Goya is a keen observer of the huma
 n drama of reason and irrationality, of dreams and nightmares.\nThe exhibi
 tion in collaboration with the Museo Nacional del Prado brings together se
 venty paintings and a selection of  drawings and prints on a journey into

 n their depiction of the human figure: of portraiture, in widely differing
  forms\; and the self-portrait.\nThe artistes include Mary Cassatt, Frida
