Why does the Russian political regime see m so strange to us in the West? Because of history, geography and proximit y, some European countries &ldquo\;know&rdquo\; Russia better than others. Over the past couple of hundred years, the USA, as well as some European countries, and that includes the United Kingdom, have been both antagonist s and protagonists.
Our Guest of Honour, currently on sabbatical le ave, is in a unique position to provide a European view of an American cul ture that feels sometimes very different from our European perspective. Fo r example, gun laws, the religious dimension, the cost of education and he althcare, the food, but also a very dynamic economy, a strong investment c limate and a polarized society that seems to influence much of Europe as w ell.
