Female Pioneers in Champagne Industry:

Champagne is famous as a celebrated wine producing region of France synonymous with its luxury sparkling wines.  Less known is that the development of the French champagne industry was driven in large part by the ingenuity and vision of two women who were instrumental in establishing their respective houses as world renown brands:  Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin (1777-1866) and Jeanne Alexandrine Louise Pommery (1819-1890).  For further details about the history of the region, including the stories of these extraordinary female pioneers, click on the link to this article:

The AIC Champagne Tour will include visits to both the Clicquot Ponsardin and Pommery vineyards.  A highlight of the tour includes exclusive access to the private Château de Boursault with champagne tasting and a gourmet lunch in the Grand Salle of the family owned château.  Its various owners included the Veuve Clicquot and the Duchesse d'Uzès.
