Tatiana Valovaya Shares UN’s Sustainable Development Goals Geneva, October 21, 2020: The American International Club (AIC) hosted its 800th speaking event since its inception in 1951, featuring Mrs. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations in Geneva. Mrs. Valovaya discussed the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone,everywhere. The SDG consists of 17 goals were adopted by all UN Member States as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Mrs. Valovaya discussed SDG issues within the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that the very rapid transmission of COVID-19 in today’s globally interconnected world. She observed that the COVID-related economic shutdown and confinement in the spring led to an immediate improvement of our environment. History, Progress, and Freedom Ed Schneider, AIC President This weekend, I reread the history of the United States in order to prepare a video that you will receive on Saturday, July 4th. The saying “history repeats itself” rang loud and clear. The current shift towards populism today is nothing new. The wealth and power created by the industrial revolution in the late 1800s was astounding, as was the stark gap between the ultra-rich such as JP Morgan and the multitude of new immigrants and recently freed slaves living in poverty. The resounding populist backlash at the turn of the last century was of a similar magnitude. Teddy Roosevelt busted up many of the largest US conglomerates during his reign as president. Visionaries Provide a Path to Better Health Care Geneva, December 17, 2019: The American International Club (AIC) hosted a panel on value-based health care for Geneva. The panel consisted of Mauro Poggia, Conseiller d’Etat in charge of security, employment and health care; and Rodolphe Eurin, CEO of La Tour Medical Group.
On November 6, 2019, the AIC welcomed Christian Brunier, General Manager of SIG, to talk about Happiness at Work (in French). SIG was named best Swiss-Romand employer of 2018 by Bilan Magazine, largely due to the dramatic changes Mr. Brunier made to the culture of the company since he took the helm in 2014.
